The Art of Display
By Alex Abbott
I work as an art consultant specialising in the display of objects. Working on everything from contemporary sculpture to ancient archaeological findings. I am the director of Dauphin Acrylic Design, one of the world’s largest mount making and display companies.
I have worked in world famous public museums and institutes, to luxury yachts and the most expensive properties ever sold. Working for everyone from Royal families, private clients, auctions houses and dealers, collaborating directly with artists and even with Michelin start chiefs to display food.
I also lecture in museum studies and give talks at art events and fairs. I have provided research for the Tate Gallery. Dauphin is recommended by the V&A conservation department, and we were awarded a Royal Warrant.
In my capacity as an art consultant, I use my experience of mount making, conservation and project management. I can help to over see everything from acquisition to installation of artwork and artefacts. Bringing together a host of contacts I have built up in the art world. I work either direct with a client or appointed by architects, engineers and interior designer to ensure that the artwork, its transport and handling, the space and everything in between, is suitable to meet a client’s brief.
Why Use Me
As you would factor into any building the location of everything from a toilet to an electrical outlet. The placement of artwork is perhaps even more important within a space. Having a consultant can ensure artwork is installed successfully and too the right effect. Considering every need from how to choose a piece, to structural calculations to ensure the weight of a sculpture can be taken in a given area. Looking at how it should be safely moved, displayed and its fixations and maintenance.
I am not the kind of art consultant who chooses investment pieces. I am hands on with engineering solutions and project managing every aspect of a collection that you love.
